Project NOAH has recently completed the flood hazard map for the province of Camiguin!
It can also be recalled that OpenStreetMap contributors through the initiative of Project NOAH was able to finish mapping the building footprints of the province last March.
With these accomplishments, end-users, especially the officials of the local government unit (LGU) of Camiguin, can now better rely on the information integrated into the Project NOAH website tools. This is because the building footprints obtained from the OpenStreetMap community is now also in the WebSAFE application.
With WebSAFE, LGU officials and other concerned individuals can better visualize disaster response and relief scenarios and the resources (e.g. relief goods, water supply, etc.) they would need to prepare in case a severe weather event strikes.
Moreover, with the aid of the flood hazard map, Camiguin’s flood risk areas are now even easier to pinpoint. The high-resolution flood hazard map can be used to determine which areas in the province are susceptible to floods and flash floods in case there is heavy rainfall in the area.
These innovations can be utilized in risk mapping, assessment, and planning before, during, and after a weather event– this is the current initiative of the Integrated Scenario-based Assessment of Impacts and Hazards (ISAIAH) component of Project NOAH.
