MANILA — After “Noah,” “Moses” comes to the rescue of Pinoys from the floods.

Dr. Alfredo Mahar Francisco Lagmay, the head of the Project Nationwide Operational Assessment of Hazards (Project NOAH), revealed Sunday that they will soon distribute “Moses” tablets in order to equip Filipinos against disasters.

Lagmay said the Monitoring and Operating System for Emergency Services (Moses) tablets will be distributed to disaster managers in July, during a convention on disaster preparedness.

“It is very important during disaster situations to have communication. Communication is two-way, from the control center we can deliver information to the people in the field, and we can receive info coming from the area stricken by hazardous events,” he said.

According to him, the tablets, which are locally developed and assembled, have water-proof casing, antennas, and long-lasting batteries.

However, the tablets will not be readily available to the public, but to barangay officials and local disaster managers who will be responsible in exchanging information with that from the command center of Project Noah. The information from the tablets will be area-focused, he said.

Lagman noted that the public can already tap the mobile app that Project Noah has prepared for IOS and Android users. Here, the public will be able to get up-to-date information about the weather.

“What we really want to do is get people to have access to critical info. It should be made available to either the rich or the poor…Information will be critical in saving the lives of people,” he said.
